    Ventrilo Information

    Current Status

    Ventrilo Configuration

First, you need to download Ventrilo from www.ventrilo.com. Choose the first option, the Windows Client.

Next, run the downloaded file and install Ventrilo, by clicking next on all the installation prompts.

Now run Ventrilo. First you need to create a User Name, so click the left arrow buton next to the blank. Click on 'New' in the dialog box that appears, and enter your character name and click OK, and OK again.

The next thing is to add a server. Click the arrow right under the one you clicked before. Click new, and type a name in, the name is for your benefit, so choose whatever you want: guild, Destiny's Flame, whatever. Then click OK. Next for 'Hostname or IP' put in force.typefrag.com. Under 'Port number' put 22156. Next, you must enter the password in this thread in the member section of our boards. Leave the other settings alone and click OK.

Now click 'Connect' and you should connect in a few seconds. Now to get to the channel you want, simply double-click it.

If you want to learn about the settings and other features, or need some help, try the official Ventrilo setup guide or FAQ. If you still get stuck, ask someone in game or on the forums for help.

    Voice Setup Help

The sections you need to worry about here are the ones with numbers by them. The rest should match the screencap above. They may be changed, but it is generally not reccomended. The other tabs (Events, Binds, Speech, etc.) may be altered as well, but change them only if you are fairly certain of the result.

    1) Use Push-To-Talk Hotkey-This toggles between using voice activation or a hotkey. With voice activation, it will automatically transmit once the microphone picks up sound past a certain level. With a hotkey, you will choose a hotkey to hold while you speak. A hotkey can be the most productive for most people, as voice activation can be difficult to control. Note that some of these options below will be greyed out depending on whether or not this box is checked.

    2) Use DirectInput to detect Hotkey-This setting is used for when you are having difficulty using a hotkey in a game. You should keep this unchecked unless your hotkey does not seem to work properly, or if you want to use something other than the keyboard or mouse for the hotkey. If that is the case, click the controller button to allow your gamepad, joystick, or other device to activate the hotkey.

    3) Hotkey-This is where you set the hotkey. Click in here, press and release the hotkey you wish to use, and click OK.

    4) Silence time-This is the duration Ventrilo will keep monitoring your voice after the sound coming into the mic drops below the sensitivity level. 1-3 seconds is normal here.

    5) Sensitivity-This is the Voice Activation sensitivty level. The number you enter here will depend on your sound card and microphone-higher means louder. Use the Monitor button to pick a good level for here.

    6) Monitor-When you press this button, you will begin to see numbers scroll down the white box to the right. When you speak into the mic they will increase, and you will here sound notifications when you breach your current sensitivity level. This is where you will want to test your voice to set your Voice activation sensitivity. So, they way to use this is to press the button, and speak normally into the mic. Watch the numbers, and note which numbers you stay above about 80-90% of the time. Then set your sensitivity accordingly. i.e. if you see mostly numbers over 25 with the occasional dip below, then set your sensitivity to 25. Click the Monitor button again to exit this mode.

    7) Input and Output Devices-Generally you will leave these alone, however if you have 2 sound cards (Motherboard built-in and a PCI card perhaps), or maybe a webcam with a mic, you may need to pick something else here. Input is your microphone, output is your speakers or headset.

    8) Amplifiers-This adjusts the sound you hear from others and your own volume. If people say you are too soft and hard to hear, turn up the Outbound slider. If most others are too soft or loud, then turn up or down the Inbound slider.
